Rapper Rev. Run Featured On Oprah Winfrey Show

By Alexis Jeffries and Danielle Harling

Talk show mogul Oprah Winfrey hasn't received much love from the Hip-Hop community lately.

Minor incidents with Hip-Hop stars such as Ludacris and Ice Cube has the billionaire deemed a Hip-Hop hater by many, but hopefully an appearance by a Hip-Hop legend on Winfrey's show will silence critics.

Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons from the legendary Hip-Hop group Run DMC made a special appearance on The Oprah Show to discuss the upcoming season of his reality show Run's House.

Not a stranger to Hip-Hop or problems facing the Hip-Hop community, Reverend Run shared his opinion on Winfrey's situation.

"I don't know if it's Hip-Hop that she has a big problem with," Reverend Run told AllHipHop.com. "I think that she has a problem with some of the images that might not fit the people that watch her show. She does things that are close to what she thinks her audience will like."

The episode is scheduled to air Monday, Apr. 2 and will feature Reverend Run and his family discussing the upcoming show, their battle with losing their newborn, and even his daughters' upcoming sneaker line called "Pastries."

Reverend Run and family's appearance on The Oprah Show was actually suggested by Winfrey's well-know best friend Gayle King.

"Well, Gayle King is a friend, and she kept telling Oprah, 'Man, there's this show with Reverend Run, and he writes these words of wisdom', and she was talking to her for awhile about it until she finally said, 'Okay, let's have him on the show'," Reverend Run told AllHipHop.com.

Run's House , now in its third season, will depict new experiences and obstacles faced by the Simmons family such as Vanessa and Angela's move to New York City, the death of their child, and the continuation of the eldest son JoJo's rap career.

"The reason why I even filmed anything about the baby and stuff is that if ya'll laugh with me at the bowling alley with my kids and giggled with me on the basketball court with my kids, since it is a reality show, why wouldn't I let you see how I handled adversity," Reverend Run told AllHipHop.com. "It's also to show you how to be thankful during situations that aren't favorable towards you. Who am I to be resentful to God, to the world, as good as the world has been to Reverend Run? I didn't let that affect me. I'm a very thankful person. Reverend Run will go down as a man who is thankful to God and to the world."

Season three of Run's House will premiere Apr. 9 on MTV and season two of the show can be seen on BET.

Usher is engaged to his longtime girlfriend

NEW YORK - Usher is engaged to his longtime girlfriend, stylist Tameka Foster, the R&B singer's spokeswoman said Friday.

Usher, a five-time Grammy winner, confirmed the engagement Wednesday to MTV News, ending speculation that he had popped the question.

Foster has been photographed recently with a diamond ring on her finger.

Usher, 28, said he could be walking down the aisle before the end of the year.

Usher is really serious about this huh. We'll see!

Michael Jackson ill, but not in hospital

LAS VEGAS - Michael Jackson is "a little bit under the weather," but hasn't sought hospital treatment, his spokeswoman said.

"He is not in the hospital and he has not been in the hospital," Raymone K. Bain said Thursday, denying reports that Jackson had been hospitalized with pneumonia.

Bain said she spoke with Jackson from his home, where he was conducting meetings with business associates. The 48-year-old pop star has been living in Las Vegas while he evaluates his options for a comeback deal.

Jackson moved to Las Vegas late last year. He had been living abroad since his 2005 acquittal on child molestation charges.

Bain said a few members of the Jackson entourage had fallen ill after a recent trip abroad.

"I don't know how the doctors have diagnosed it," Bain said.

BUSTA RHYMES AND HIS LEGAL PROBLEMS

It appears that Busta will have to stand trail for two assault charges that were settled. Judge Tanya Kennedy withdrew a March 26 offer, which would have allowed Rhymes to plead guilty to a third degree assault, a misdemeanor. The offer would’ve allowed Rhymes to serve five days of community service, two weeks of youth lectures and six months of anger management.

Rhymes was arrested again, this time for driving with a suspended license and the plea deal is gone. Rhymes is allegedly accused of assaulting his former driver Edward Hatchett over back pay, the other for allegedly assaulting a fan that spit on his Maybach in Manhattan.

Rhymes was prepared to accept the previous plea deal and his arrest came two days after he rejected a plea bargain from prosecutors, who originally offered Rhymes six moths jail. Prosecutors then offered Rhymes a new offer that would have allowed him to avoid a trail, but called for the rapper to serve one year in jail concurrently for both of the assault charges.

Trail is scheduled for May 8th for both assault charges.

Busta should be well aware that NYPD (may) have an issue with him since he continues to be of no assistance to them in the shooting death of his bodyguard Israel Ramirez last year.

Busta please be aware and stop giving these……something to fuck with you for.

Stay tuned.

Till we meet again,

TONY YAYO UPDATE

Since the alleged assault on Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond’s 14 yr old son, Tony Yayo, born Marvin Bernard has been arrested and of course released on $5000 bail. Yayo was arraigned on Sunday March 25, on one count of misdemeanor and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor.

As a direct result to the incident, Hip Hop Summit Action Networks’ Russell Simmons and Dr. Benjamin Chavis are planning a peaceful rally & grievance in response to the incident. Cynthia Reed the teen’s mother, Representatives from Czar Entertainment, parents, students and Religious Leaders are expected to attend.

“We are involved to try to help mediate the problem, said Chavis. “In truth, every child in our community is precious. The theme Hip Hop Summit is taking back responsibility. With artistic freedom comes responsibility. Therefore anytime a child in our community is harmed it is a great concern to us. We are hoping and praying that this matter can be resolved peacefully and resolutely. At the end of the day the interest of our children will be better served”.

The group hopes the demonstration will result in a call for action to advocate change against Yayo, 50 Cent and the music industry executives looking to profit from the violence and acts against youth in hip hop.

50 Cent and his attorney have maintained the rapper was not present during the incident and they are prepared to sue anyone who continues to say otherwise. The 14 yr old teen is standing by his story that puts 50 Cent at the scene.

Now I had the pleasure of hearing the phone interview Wendy Williams did with Cynthia Reed (mother of teen), Wendy asked Cynthia what Jimmy’s reaction is and being that she (Wendy) knows him, things are brewing and it will not be a good look for G-Unit. Cynthia did not comment on Jimmy’s plan. She was just very upset of course and you know she said, her disbelief was in the fact that Yayo (allegedly) backslapped her son, she doesn’t even hit her son and the nerve of a grown man putting his hand on a child is crazy.

It is going to be really interesting to see what Jimmy’s comments are and what his actions will be as a father. Stay tuned.

For those of you that would like to attend the event….A press conference will be held before the event @ 11 am Thursday at the Park Central Hotel, 870 7th Ave. (source allhiphop)

Sorry guys I am so late with this hope nobody missed it.

Till we meet again,

Viacom Files $1 Billion Lawsuit Against YouTube

By Kyra Mitchell Lewis

According to the Associated Press, Viacom filed a suit Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New York, claiming that YouTube, which was purchased by Google, Inc. this past November for a reported $1.76 billion, has shown 160,000 videos owned by Viacom without the company's permission. Viacom is contending that YouTube "harnessed technology to willfully infringe copyrights on a huge scale" and had "brazen disregard" of intellectual property laws.

In February, Viacom, which owns several cable stations, including MTV, BET, VH1 and Comedy Central, reportedly demanded that the site remove more than 100,000 unauthorized clips but has since discovered an additional 50,000 clips according to Jeremy Zweig, a Viacom spokesperson.

"Their business model, which is based on building traffic and selling advertising off of unlicensed content, is clearly illegal and is in obvious conflict with copyright laws," Viacom said in a statement.

The company is accusing YouTube of not taking the initiative to stop copyright infringement and rather shoulders the responsibility to the individual copyright holders to monitor if their material is being used illegally.

YouTube has expressed that it cooperates with all of its copyright holders and does in fact remove the material once they are notified. In his company's defense, Google spokesman Ricardo Reyes said in a statement that the company has "not received the lawsuit but (is) confident that YouTube has respected the legal rights of copyright holders and believes the courts will agree." Reyes also went on to say that the suit would not "become a distraction to the continuing growth and strong performance of YouTube," in a statement obtained from MSN.com.

In addition, Alexander Macgillivray, associate general counsel for products and intellectual property at Google, defends the claims by saying that YouTube was protected under the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which gives online service providers protection from copyright lawsuits, pending that they acknowledge and comply with requests to remove unauthorized material.

"We're saying that the DMCA protects what we're doing," Macgillivray said in an interview. On the other hand, he said, "The DMCA is silent on what we have to do if we don't get a notice."

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY

Tuesday, March 13 marks he day for the release of three highly anticipated CD’s…Rich Boy, Musiq Soul Child and Lloyd. All three hit up 106 & Park yesterday to promote their individual projects.

Rich Boy makes his debut on a self-titled CD. Riding high on the hit Throw Some D’s, Rich Boy has released a new single and video for “Boy Looka Here” which premiered on 106 & Park yesterday. Rich Boy has collaborations on his first effort with David Banner, Pastor Troy & Big Boi and Polow Da Don who also served as producer on the album. Hey even Kanye jumped on the remix to T.S. D’s. Rich Boy says video of the remix soon come.

Our favorite guy Musiq Soul Child is back with a new CD titled Luvanmusiq

Musiq spoke with SOHH on the reason behind the title. “ The reason I titled it Luvanmusiq is because I worked on 70 to 80 records and it was a real challenge to find a theme in the midst of all those records. So I figured how about I just find the most common thread between all of these songs.” “ I found that most songs I have are about love and relationships, that’s just a popular subject matter in my line of work. and I just put the two together—Love and Music.

Lloyd comes back with his sophomore CD titled Street Love. He’s already delivered two singles & videos for “You” & “Get it Shawty”. Both videos appear daily on 106 & Park, so the kids like seem to like it. But what about the entire CD. Lloyd fans can expect production from Jazze Pha, Dallas Austin & Brian Cox. Lloyd commented to SOHH on him being compared to other young

R & B artist. “People always ask me what separates me from the rest of the crowd, you know the Chris Browns, Omarions, the NeYo’s, the Bobby Vs of the world and I’m friends with all these guys, I love those guys. But the one thing I think that I can really do is, I bridge the gap between hip-hop & R&B. “That’s what you’re going to get on Street Love, we all are stars in our own right, but I be on that stuff sometimes.” The producers who lent their talents to this CD will have us all on the dance floor and singing along with Lloyd. My opinion: One day I caught Lloyd and Lil’ Wayne on 106& Park, they performed the song, “YOU”. Lloyd was awful, he’s not able to sing and dance, his vocals were outta here. So I wish him luck on his live performances in support of this CD.

Please go out and support our brothers and tell me what you think.

Till we meet again,

Faye

Kicking it with Persia:

Why She’s Proving to the World She’s not Just That Bitch From the "White Rapper Show"

By: Kyra Mitchell Lewis

When I started watching the “white Rapper Show” 6 out of the 10 contestants seemed whack in my opinion and only about 3 of them stood out to me as having the potential to be a “real” rapper. Persia, a dope hip-hop chick from Far Rockaway, NY automatically stood out as one of the shows top contenders. She had a hot sound and was killing things lyrically. Upon her arrival to “The White House” she was automatically labeled the “bitch” with attitude in the house. Now that the show is wrapped, Persia spoke with me candidly about her experience on the show from the infamous dildo argument with John Brown to the challenge that sent her to the hospital.

KM: What age were you when you starting rapping?

Persia: I started writing at the age of 8 and starting rapping in ‘05

KM: Who were you influenced by?

Persia: I was heavily influenced by old school Hip-Hop; M.O.P., Rakim, MC Lyte

KM: How did you hear about The White Rapper Show?

Persia: I was just looking to get my music out to people to give me feedback. I was on Craigslist and saw the listing looking for white rappers and one of the requirements of course was to be a rapper and have personality. I wasn’t too sure about my MC skills, but I knew I had plenty of personality.

KM: What were your initial thoughts about the other MC’s?

Persia: I met Sham first and we clicked automatically and he introduced me to Sullee and we too hit it off. I’ll have to admit, I wasn’t to sure about some of the MC’s when I first got there.

KM: Okay, do you care to elaborate?

Persia: Yeah, when I met 100 Proof and G-Child, I wasn’t that sure about them at first, I was wondering if they were real MC’s.

KM: How did the beef between you can John Brown originate?

Persia: When we arrived at the house and everyone was kicking back getting to know each other and John Brown had a blank look on his face when people were asking him questions, it seemed like he was talking down to us like he was better than everyone else and I mistook his “serious” look as a blank stare. I think the thing that pushed me over the edge was when I heard him say he was an entity and not a rapper that pissed me off. I mean I felt like he was disrespecting hip-hop completely and I lost it on him, I can blame a lot of my actions on the fact that we all had been drinking that night J.

KM: Did anything change when you two started working together on a few of the challenges?

Persia: Well, I was kind of starting to gain some respect for him because we were on a team and we worked well together, but things all changed after the Hot 97 interview. I just lost all respect for him at that point.

KM: People appearing on reality shows often say the shows were heavily edited and may portray them in a different light. What are your thoughts on the shows editing?

Persia: Of course the show is edited in way that will achieve the highest ratings. It’s entertainment at the end of the day and no body would want to watch a bunch of boring people with no personality. As for me, I think the show portrayed me as the “bitchy” chick, but hey that is a part of me, but not all of me. What people didn’t see is that I took care of Sullee when he was sick and I cooked for the cast and crew all the time, but I didn’t have a problem with the editing of the show.

KM: Did you all interact with the artists that were featured on the show?

Persia: Some of the guests were in and out, but I got to talk to one of my favorites Saigon after the show, since I had been taken to the hospital that day he was on set after the Obstacle Course challenge.

KM: Speaking of the challenges, how did you feel about them?

Persia: I loved the first challenge when we walked the streets meeting our neighbors and free styling. Since I’m from the area, I felt right at home, I felt comfortable and didn’t feel like I had to try so hard. As for the other challenges, I thought some of them were time-fillers and a lot of them were for pure entertainment purposes. Some of the other rappers thought that some of them had nothing to do with hip-hop, but they didn’t really bother me.

KM: How would you summarize the whole experience?

Persia: I would say I had the roughest time of anyone else. I had the flu and food poison and those were the things people didn’t get to see, but at the end of it all, I wouldn’t change anything and I’d do it again if given the chance.

KM: What’s next for Persia?

Persia: I have a mix-tape dropping soon, I’m talking with people about potential TV shows and movies and I’m just meeting with label to discuss my CD; lots of great things to come from soon.

KM: I know you did some singing on the show on a couple of the tracks, will you be singing on your upcoming CD at all?

Persia: (Laughs) I wasn’t really too sure about my vocal skills.

KM: Really, I thought those tracks that you sang on were pretty dope.

Persia: Well, there may be a couple of tracks on the CD that I’m singing on.

KM: Last question, what are the challenges facing you as a white rapper?

Persia: I don’t feel like I’m challenged as a white rapper; I don’t feel like I have to prove myself, I don’t see color really, I just see myself as an MC.

KM: Persia, again thank you for taking the time out to speak with me and wish you nothing but success in the future.

The “White Rapper Show” was truly only a first step in what I’m sure will be a long-lasting career for Persia. After speaking with her, I didn’t see a “bitch”, I saw a New York girl who had serious love for this thing we call hip-hop.

HOT 97 MISS JONES

By now we are well aware that Miss Jones is a hater and seems to have issues with every R & B female singer. Not sure why because Miss Jones has a voice. She must use it for good not evil, then maybe a record deal will come.

A close friend of Miss Jones just felt compelled to write a letter to fab chick at YBF.com regarding Miss Jones and her unhealthy obsession with Beyonce. Below is the letter:

I felt I had to do this. She is a miserable women. Miss Jones and I have been friends for a little over six years but our friendship has ended over her obsession with Beyonce. She would throw fits and tantrums any time a song came on about Beyonce. (damn that must have been about every 5 minutes, especially if she was listening to Hot 97). I thought she was way out of line when she disrespect Miss Tina Knowles. (why do you care about Tina Knowles) She would say nasty things about Bee like that she is a skinny bitch and how no one can shine but her. She would e mail her a hundred times a day saying mean things to her. I begged her to get some professional help but she would lash out at me. She said to me I hope home girl that one that was obsessed with Jay-Z she was on Dr.Phil’s “I hope she follow through one day and pull that bitches weave out. One night we went out and I stayed over her house. I was awoke out of my sleep about two am in the morning what sounded like a wounded dog I went into the living room to find Miss Jones hysterical crying huddled up in the corner she had cutout pics of Beyonce body with the head cut off and replaced them with hers. ( now please Miss Jones is too damn lazy for that) I was shocked, speechless she held up the pic for me to see why is she doing this to me she sobbed this is supposed to be my life see I was skinny just like this. I had no idea that her obsession had gotten this out of control. The next morning I told her to get dressed I’m getting you some help she flipped out, she was acting like maniac. Look at you. you’re a mess eyes are blood shot red get dressed comb your hair and lets go get I said to her. Your hurting people for no reason Christina Milan, Monica, Beyonce who’s next? You really need help. She refused. I told her I was done with her. Maybe a week a two weeks later she contacted me and apologized she confessed to me that she was bulimic and wondered why her career had flopped and she as gonna seek professional help for her obsession. Then the next thing you know she makes a diss record called Upstage you about Jennifer Hudson and Beyonce. (well it was true and funny as hell) That was it.

I have had it. That’s why I felt I needed to put her on blast It’s a never ending cycle. (source YBF.com) What the hell are friends for? If I can’t go off about my unhealthy obsessions with you who can I do it with?

Till we meet again,

College Hill is Back

By Kyra Mitchell Lewis

The fourth season of BET's reality series "College Hill" - a "Real World" set at historically black colleges - heads to the University of the Virgin Islands, where the show could just as easily be dubbed "Temptation Island."For the new season, which starts tonight at 10, four male and four female students are picked to live in a tricked-out pad in St. Thomas for one semester. While there are clashes between the stateside transplants and the islanders, there is also a lot of lust.

J.T. Thompson, a music major and aspiring rapper who grew up in Compton, Calif., immediately hits it off with Idesha Browne, 21, a biology major from St. Kitts, and they're caught making out the second night they're in the house. The rub: J.T., 21, left a longtime girlfriend at home."There was that one little issue," says Browne. "I knew he had a girlfriend, so I told myself to stay away from him, but it doesn't always work out that way."But don't mistake her explanation for an apology. "We're young," she continues. "We're allowed to make mistakes." Bed-hopping isn't unusual in reality shows. And while there isn't a lot of footage of the roommates cracking the books, we do occasionally see them in class.

Thompson, who is dubbed "Rev. J.T.," even cracks the Good Book, which must mark the first appearance of the Bible in a reality show. Like J.T., Willie McMiller, a 22-year-old marketing major and actor/comedian from St. Louis, hails from a religious family: His father is a pastor. But McMiller hasn't exactly taken to heart the part about the meek inheriting the earth."I still to this day consider this show the Willie Mac show featuring the cast of 'College Hill,'" he says.

He has plenty of experience in front of an audience. He's performed at the Laugh Factory and the Comedy Store and has done guest stints on TV shows including "CSI," where he didn't play a saint. ("There's only one character a black guy with an Afro can play on 'CSI,'" he says. "I played a thug.") When McMiller's amorous advances toward Vanessa Hamilton, a beautiful psychology major from St. Croix, go unreciprocated, he immediately turns his attention to Krystal Lee, a broadcast communications major from Orange County, Calif."I kind of came off a little wild," says McMiller. Will his parents be watching? "I hope not," he says. "But yeah, they'll be watching."
